While the game itself gained a cult following in the years to come, many players believed that Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning would forever remain a time capsule, a monument to an ambitious idea that fell short of its vision until THQ Nordic purchased the rights in 2018, promising a remaster of the game. Misguided investments such as sponsorships and collaborations with celebrities inflated the cost of developing Kingdoms of Amalur, and when the game sold only half the copies it needed to recoup all expenses, 38 Studios ended up declaring bankruptcy as the state of Rhode Island became the new owner of the video game franchise. The horror-story development of Kingdoms of Amalur is an infamous chapter in video game history, as the loan issued by the state of Rhode Island banked on the game breaking even. Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning released its Fatesworn expansion on December 14, but Switch players will unfortunately have to wait a bit longer before they can face off against Telogrus.
